Chinese researchers at Tianjin University have developed lithium metal batteries with energy density improved by 200% to 300%. Their innovative electrolyte design enhances performance, leading to the high-energy "Battery600" and "Pack480," aiming for commercialization in various applications.

Chinese researchers from Tianjin University have developed a novel delocalized electrolyte design for lithium metal batteries, achieving a significant leap in performance. This innovation reportedly increases energy density and endurance by 200% to 300% compared to current lithium-ion batteries.
The breakthrough has led to the creation of a lithium metal pouch cell with an energy density exceeding 600 Wh/kg and a battery pack reaching 480 Wh/kg. This advancement addresses the escalating demand for high-energy, long-duration rechargeable batteries essential for sectors such as electric mobility, consumer electronics, and robotics.
The research, published in Nature, is progressing towards commercialization, with a pilot production line established and the technology already implemented in domestically developed micro electric unmanned aerial vehicles.
